Four years ago I was elected Sheriff, to take over a Department in crisis. I’m proud to report that we’ve been able to identify talent from within the LASD, as well as outside the organization, where appropriate, to form an executive team that has been able to restore confidence in the department as one of our nation’s premier law enforcement agencies.
Since then, we’ve reduced serious use of force inside the jails, created a series of systems to build greater accountability, and established the Public Data Sharing Project to increase transparency. We built the Human Trafficking Bureau to aggressively address a growing regional and national problem that victimizes some of the most vulnerable in our society – our children and young people. And we reconfigured Special Operations Division and the Criminal Intelligence Bureau to better prepare for the prevention of, response to, and recovery from terrorist incidents and other man-made or natural disasters.
While we have worked hard for reform and to strengthen community relationships, we have also succeeded in bringing crime down 16% last year in the areas patrolled by the Sheriff’s Department.

I respectfully ask for your support for my re-election as Sheriff, to ensure that the Department continues to make the progress and to continue to set the standard for American policing.
Thank you for your consideration,
Sheriff, Los Angeles County
P.S. I’m proud to be supported by a broad coalition of law enforcement and community leaders – including the L.A. County Police Chiefs Association, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, L.A. County District Attorney Jackie Lacey, L.A. Area Chamber of Commerce, L.A. Times, and the California Peace Officers Association, among many others supporters. I’d be honored to have your vote, too.
